We are kicking off a new preventative education series regarding the process of choosing a reputable pet trainer. Some of our messages are going to come across strong, but there is a reason for that. In fact, before we made the decision to move forward with our posts, we consulted with three area pet training services that I know personally.
We’d like to thank The Yuppy Puppy Pet Spa, Paw Perfection Pet Services and Becky Boucher for investing their time to work with us on this collaborative effort. Unfortunately, Facebook is not allowing me to tag their pages at this time.
Our beloved animal companions depend on us to ensure their safety, but did you know that some pet trainers pose a risk to their well-being? While there are some truly exceptional and dedicated pet trainers, there are those who use inappropriate techniques or even have questionable backgrounds.
If you use social media to make initial contact with a pet trainer, visit their business location IN PERSON. If they aren’t willing to tell you where they are located, then you need to move on to finding a new pet trainer.
Sadly, a pool of individuals advertise themselves as pet trainers through false pretenses. Remember, once you hand your pet over to someone like this, you may not get your pet back. Or worse, your pet may be mistreated. You don’t get a do-over.
